1.1 Why is it sometimes difficult to get help in the store?

We want the customers to be able to shop without interruption from salespeople. But if you need information, tips or help, our employees are at the service desks around the store.

1.2 Why are items sometimes out of stock?

Every effort is made to maintain the availability of items shown online, but due to popularity and supply issues, some products may not always be available. Generally, IKEA can estimate when a product should be back in stock.

1.3 Can you assemble an item for me?

Most IKEA products are designed so customers can easily assemble them themselves. It‘s also better for the budget.

However, we can assist. Assembly services are available for some purchases, for a small charge. Note that we don‘t assemble corner-work areas, kitchen cabinets or products that are partly made of glass.

1.4 Can I return items?

Yes. To get a full refund in the form of a credit note the product has to be unused, resalable and in the original packaging. It is also necessary to show the original receipt or gift receipt, which customers can ask for at the register when purchasing the product. If the product has been assembled, or if the packaging is missing or damaged, the customer is entitled to a refund of 70% of the original price, in the form of a credit note. It is also necessary to show the receipt or the gift receipt. If the returns and exchanges policy is not fulfilled, IKEA reserves the right to refuse a refund.

It is not possible to return or exchange plants, food, textiles, light bulbs or products from Umbúðalaust (As is). This returns and exchanges policy does not restrict any legal consumer protection.

1.5 Which countries in the world have IKEA stores?

IKEA stores are all over the world. To find a store in a different country go to IKEA.com and select the country website you need from the list.

1.6 Where are the IKEA products made?

Although our product range has a Swedish/Scandinavian appearance, we have over 2,000 suppliers in over 50 countries.

1.7 Who owns IKEA?

The IKEA brand with its Swedish roots is owned and managed by Inter IKEA Systems B.V., based in the Netherlands. IKEA uses a franchise system, and the franchisor is responsible to continuously develop the IKEA Concept and ensure its implementation in new and existing markets. IKEA has stores in 62 markets.

IKEA in Iceland is a privately owned family business.

1.10 How does IKEA keep the price so low?

By producing in high volumes with smarter designs and flat packaging, we can keep our costs down. That way, we can offer affordable products at low prices without having to compromise on quality.

1.11 How can I bring the big items home?

Since most IKEA furniture is flat-packed, you can take your goods home today in your car and enjoy them right away. However, we can arrange delivery at a reasonable rate. You can also rent an electric vehicle or a trailer from us for a small fee.

1.12 Why do I have to bring the furniture home myself?

You’ve probably heard about stores that offer free delivery service. However, “free” usually means that the cost has already been added to the product price. We want to offer the lowest price possible.

1.13 Why does IKEA treat their products badly?

Almost all IKEA furniture are tested according to strict international standards. They withstand stress because the tests simulate real events such as when kids jump on sofas and when drawers are opened ten times a day. This is done so that we can be sure that our products will last well.

Quality testing is part of our strategy to provide well-designed and functional products at low prices for everyone. We found that if the products can withstand this kind of treatment from us, they will surely withstand many things from you.

1.14 Why the flat packaging?

At IKEA, we usually design the furniture so that it can be packed in flat boxes. Our inventory and transportation costs are significantly reduced, simply because we don't transport air between locations. And because we buy in large quantities, we get volume discounts that are then passed on to you.

1.15 Why do I need to assemble the item myself?

Even though it can be tricky to assemble the products, you are paying a lower price because of that.

1.16 Why do the designers design the price tag first?

IKEA designers always need to keep in mind that they are designing a good quality product with an affordable price.

1.17 Why do we make so much of each product?

By making every product in big stock we get a good volume discount, leading to a lower price for you.

1.18 Can IKEA products be sold in other stores?

No, all resale of IKEA products is prohibited. IKEA stores worldwide only sell IKEA products and only IKEA stores can sell IKEA products. In this way, customers are guaranteed to get the same quality, service and low prices wherever they buy IKEA products.
