IKEA products for buildings with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel

Many IKEA products are approved for use in buildings with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, but do not have the ecolabel
If our customers want to buy products that meet the requirements of the Nordic Swan Ecolabel they can get information on which products have been approved and even get a product added to the list upon request. The product then goes through an approval process at the Environment Agency with IKEA as an intermediary.

IKEA usually has a policy of not having external certifications, the IKEA brand should be sufficient assurance that the product is of ecological quality. Certifications vary from market to market so certification in one country might have little meaning in another. However, the demand for certification, e.g. the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, has increased and IKEA is therefore working on finding a solution for buildings with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. Today there is a list of products that have received approval from the Environment Agency for use in buildings with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel.

That does not mean that other products do not meet the requirements, it simply means that they have not gone through the approval process – which is necessary for a product to be considered acceptable for such buildings.

More sustainable products
  • 97.8% of the wood used in IKEA products is FSC certified or recycled
  • We are constantly looking for ways to use less raw material, without affecting the quality of the products, or more ecological raw materials such as fast-growing bamboo
  • All IKEA mirrors are lead-free
  • The Supplier Code of Conduct, IWAY, is a strict set of regulations for everything from staff facilities to animal welfare that all IKEA suppliers have to comply with in order to produce IKEA products
